This is the press release for the new documentary "Katie: The Science of Seeing Again".

Following a vicious acid attack in 2008, Katie Piper has undergone 109 operations to rebuild her face. But it is the 110th op, using cutting-edge science, which could truly transform her life, providing her only chance of seeing again through her badly damaged left eye.

After spending three and a half years struggling to accept she would forever be blind in one eye, Katie heard about pioneering surgery that could potentially restore her sight using the extraordinary power of stem cells.

She tracked down the doctor responsible for it and has put herself forward to be one of the first people in the world to undergo the treatment, which entails transplanting stem cells directly into her eye.

Fascinated by this futuristic regenerative treatment and keen to better understand how the invasive procedure works, Katie embarks on an exploration of stem cell science.

It's hailed by some as the saviour of modern medicine, and Katie also explores the ethical debate that surrounds stem cell treatment, some of which involves the use or destruction of human embryos.

Katie discovers the science behind stem cell technology, investigating the long term effects, the chance of success and moral considerations as she prepares to undergo this ground-breaking optical surgery.

Hi Katie,

I hope this finds you doing well?

I bought your book in WH Smith on the way home last night with the intention of reading it on my trip down to Devon this weekend. I had a little read on my 45 minute journey home and found it impossible to out down. I'm on about a page 100 now.

I had seen information on TV after the attack and some interviews with yourself and more recently, your TV show about your beautiful friends.

It's wonderful for you to turn such a negative into a positive and be such an inspiration to others in highlighting causes which the press often ignore as they are too busy trying to follow around D list celebrities. It is great that you have made people aware of your daily struggle as well as others with having burns and other physical conditions which as you mention in your book, people sometimes don't know how to react to. Also, you have highlighted the case that there are some men who still see as women as something they can abuse. It's something which has had some press but it's dropped off now when the focus is now on the world of Made in Essex which is frustrating as there is an increasing problem in women being treated like second class citizens.

I want to praise you for your bravery and also thank you for sharing your story as the more you talk about both topics, the more you shed light to the public on these issues and the strength you give to others who are facing issues.

I also would like to know if there is any campaign in the UK for the British public to push for the Home Secretary to keep your attackers in prison indefinately as I am happy to write a letter to say that it would be in the interests of everyone that they should never be released.

All the best,

Hi all,

My name is Stefani Thatcher & I'm planning to put together a fan book for Katie Piper.

I am in contact with the Katie Piper Foundation & they've agreed to help me with this project.
The plan is to ask all supporters of Katie to send in whatever they want to go into the book, this will be presented to Katie once is it completed.

Everyone can fill an A4 piece of paper with what ever they want, a letter, inspirational quotes, drawings, stories, photos of themsleves, photos of fundraisers ... Anything that Katie has inspired you to do. Be as creative as you want.

We only ask that a you make a donation along with your submission. This can be a £1 donation or £50, whatever you can spare. Of course everything we raise will go to the Katie Piper Foundation.

I'd like to know how many people would like to be part of the Katie: My Beautiful Fans book. If this is something you think you'd like to be part of please contact me on stefani.thatcher@hotmail.co.uk ... I can then send you the details.

Morning Katie

I have just finished your book, what a read! I couldn't put it down. To say I was moved by it is an understatement. You have written it so beautifully, I hope in some way it was cathartic for you to write it all down in such detail, although I am sure very difficult.

I hope that your future is extremely bright, you truly deserve it. You have a real fighting spirit and a beauty that shines inside and out, along with a very inspiring family too, so I have no doubt that you have a great future ahead.

Good luck to you Katie in all your amazing work that you are doing now, I will remember your foundation when we are fund raising next time.

Lastly I would just like to say, you really are beautiful Katie, your pictures prove that and I hope that you feel it too.

Hi, I felt compelled to post something after watching tonights documentary. To me Katie looks absolutely gorgeous, as does everybody who's featured on it, and who I've met in day to day life with visual disfigurements.

The one thing I've noticed, is that if you have a good sense of humour, and smile alot, the world smiles with you, and you automatically look so much more attractive. As bizarre as it might sound to some people, being positive, and having a good sense of humour (as difficult as it must be) really does make you more attractive, and approachable.

I don't have a facial disfigurement, though I suffered with an illness called body dysmorphic disorder for many years (I was reclusive because I daren't face people). Because I felt so unattractive I used to wear a hat over my face, and if I did come face to face with people I'd look so awkward and anxious, I think it makes you less approachable.

I read a book about positivity, as stupid as it may sound, and tried hypnotherapy, and for the past two years my life has been so much different. I'm not trying to compare, not at all. My problem wasn't physical it was mental.

What I'm trying to say, is that I kind of understand how it feels to feel different, and also that everyone on the programs and who I've met with disfigurements, or problems, who has smiled and not lost themselves (I can't imagine how you can't lose yourself after such a big change)... people can see past the fact that you look a bit different. And those who can't don't deserve you anyway!

Watching Katie is just a real eye-opener. How she's stayed so positive is one of her main attractions. After all of her surgery, I think she looks very attractive anyway, more attractive than most people without disfigurements; but the fact she's so positive and caring towards others, makes her even more attractive.

I felt sad that the girl on tonights program felt that way, about men. I can appreciate why she must feel like that (I feel like that too sometimes, and I don't have a disfigurement), but I guess the way I healed myself was through positive thinking. If you imagine you're going to have the world, you'll have it, one way or another

Hugs to everyone, and thanks Katie for making those with small minds more aware that being a little different is no big deal xxx
